Though both PlayStation 4 and Xbox 720 are not yet present on the market, most game enthusiasts and techie individuals have been generating numerous thoughts on how they would look like, their capabilities, the games that come with them, and how would the gaming public accept these two gaming console clans. Since their predecessors have been introduced in the market the rivalry between PlayStation 4 versus Xbox 720 are seen to be tougher. Given PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360’s current market statistics, the first aspect of distinction will have to be the retail price.

Xbox was sold cheaper compared to PlayStation, but the latter has ensured that the higher price tag is compensated by better game features. The dispute with PlayStation 4 versus Xbox 720 will also have to deal with quality graphics. Sony has been one of the leading technology providers when it comes to audio and most importantly video and TV technology. With said advantage, it can be expected that the new breed of PlayStation will still reign when it comes to picture or graphics quality. But this fact should not discourage the Xbox lovers, because some reports are stating that its makers have been making some hard work on this feature.

Another rivalry yardstick is on gaming experience and preference. With this aspect, it will still boil down to individual tastes and preference of the players or users themselves. Certainly, those who have grown to love those exclusive games that only Xbox can offer will look forward to seeing more additions or game improvements upon the release of the 720. The same goes true with the PlayStation 4. Nonetheless, the rivalry between PlayStation 4 versus Xbox 720 will have to be equated by the fact that both consoles are equally best at RPG and RPG adventure, shooting, and party games.

The PlayStation 4 engineers should also work on the game controller where many have claimed that Xbox’s Kinect-type motion sensor controller beats the rest of the competition. Again, rumors have been passed around concerning this effort undertaken by Sony.

Finally, the tough competition between PlayStation 4 versus Xbox 720 wouldn’t be complete without battling their respective ways in terms of physical appearance and design. It has been noted that ergonomics or a console’s sleek, futuristic, functional and attractive design will always play as a top factor for the gamer to consider when shopping. Though there hasn’t been an official design released for both new generation consoles, game fanatics have already made the lead to generate their great suggestions.

Sony’s silence on how its new console would finally look like paved the way for game enthusiasts and design experts to make their own rendition of the PlayStation 4 design. But before the public got to know what is now considered the final layout, some independent designs have took the internet by storm. It may be brought by the very unique, futuristic, and attractive look for these initial design suggestions.

The first and probably the most popular concept roaming around the internet is the slick glass design with a futuristic disc loader unit on the side. The glass panel serves as the PlayStation’s touch pad or screen where every details, settings, and controls are located and may be performed. This version will essentially translate to a full-touch control panel. Certainly, it can be considered as one of the best designs conceived for the PlayStation 4, but, further assessment on its features and practicality raised several concerns and doubts on its acceptability and usefulness.

Among the numerous concerns with the above PlayStation 4 design is the glass panel itself. Most experts view that a glass panel menu is no longer necessary and would just rarely be used. This is aside from the common problems encountered when the glass panel eventually gets damaged, the entire unit would render useless.

The next popularized PlayStation 4 design can be said to be rather bizarre and might be literally termed as “out of this world”. Since this layout suggestion presents a console that is seemingly like an alien-spaceship. It has a circular design featuring a red neon line on top, crossing the console’s radius. The controller is also designed to be unique wherein, it resembles a boomerang or an arched half-circle. In case Sony has considered this option, it can be considered as deviation from the PlayStation design tradition.

Finally, the final PlayStation 4 design that is said to be rolling on the production line is the one designed by Joseph Dumary. It comes in two versions, the standing or the vertical type and another which can lay flat of top of a table. Certain features have still preserved the traditional PlayStation look, but the certain ergonomic improvements can greatly capture attention. It is said that this new design is made out of 60 % recycled materials, is eco-friendly, and energy saving. According to its proponents, this new design is much lighter and is capable of a 0-watt power consumption during standby. It has also been designed to be compatible with the popular Sony S1 and Sony S2 tablets.

Rumors will always be attached to almost all current issues, hot topics, and things that concern public interest. And that the gaming industry hasn’t been able to escape this plight as well. The newest generation of Sony’s best gaming console has also been plagued with numerous PlayStation 4 rumors. Perhaps, the most prevalent among all concerns is the actual date of its release. According to most websites that cover and are dedicated for providing complete information about PlayStation 4, the most probable date is on the 4th quarter or the latter part of 2012.

The truth is; there hasn’t been any clear cut date provided or can be provided by Sony, its management, or even its PlayStation makers/engineers. Based on a recent interview with one of Sony’s global directors, plans for the PlayStation 4 has been rolled out but specific details including the date of release has been uncertain. If you could possibly recall in 2009, from previous PlayStation 4 rumors, the rumored release for the 4th generation gaming console was supposedly this 2011, but didn’t seem to push through. Alongside, Xbox 720 was also predicted to be out on the market by 2010 but until now, the release date is still tentative.

One notable reason for said uncertainty is the current issues with PlayStation 3. The PS3 has been recently introduced and a viable future is still seen ahead of it. Business wise, you couldn’t rush on selling a replacement of a product if your existing good is perfectly doing well in the market, and, until you have reach optimal profit or potential for that product. Another reason that can be associated with these PlayStation 4 rumors is the current technical state of its predecessor, PS3. The Sony management has accepted and IT companies and specialists like Ubisoft have expressed current issues concerning PS3’s hardware capabilities and restrictions.

Again, until Sony and its game developers have perfected and addressed the limitations of its predecessor, the PS4 will still prove to be a long way ride to reality.

Another wave of PlayStation 4 rumors involves the next generation console’s features and functionality. One notable aspect is about the game controller. Xbox has a lead among all other competitors in this aspect by making use and equipping its consoles with the Kinect-style motion sensor. Thus, almost all reports and news write ups claim that Sony has completed negotiations with a Taiwanese component developer to finally integrate said technology with the next generation PlayStation.

Though it would translate to another budget shed, the gaming public is on the lookout for the newest generation of PlayStation that is yet to be released. With any technological product offered in the market, product features and specifications are among the detrimental factors that would make or break its stay on the market, or, serves as the yardstick whether consumers would be interested to buy it or not. Among the most awaited PlayStation 4 specifications deal with how the new design would look like, expectations for an improved graphics, better controller ergonomics, additional features, and certainly an improved 3D gaming experience.

Starting with the proposed casing and design, the new PS4 will be manufactured using pure eco-friendly materials. It has been a tradition that most of the gaming consoles manufactured and made available on the market are made out of these favorable materials. It is expected that with the new PlayStation 4 specifications, it will have the highest percentage of recyclable materials used at an estimated rate of 60%.

Another expected feature is the new console’s ability to conserve energy. The “Eco Start” mode will no longer require users or game enthusiasts to switch the power on and off just to save a game or reload a previously saved one. After 30 minutes of inactivity or when the unit is not in use, it will automatically switch to standby mode. During standby, the unit will not consume any power, according to its proponents.

The console has a built in power regulator that would automatically determine when to use AC power or divert to a standby rechargeable battery cell. Hence, this PlayStation 4 specification will not only save on power consumption but will aid in the objective of prolonging the unit’s life span as well.

In gauging how powerful the new PS4 will be, it will still boil down on the hard disk’s capacity. It has been noted that some technical experts expressed their concern on PlayStation 3’s hard disk limitation. The new PlayStation has been projected to house a powerful 1.5 terabyte (TB) hard disk drive, enough to support even the most hardcore games which are currently available or yet to be programmed. PlayStation 4 specifications on the CPU are expected to consist of a 32nm 8 core processor, the ideal number of SPEs set to 16, and a 22 nm Kepler.

Sony has been one of the leaders in video and TV technology, that is why, the new PlayStation 4 will have an improved full 3D support and expected to be 4K2K compatible. As usual, it will support the high-definition Blu-Ray. Finally, PlayStation fanatics shouldn’t be surprised if this 4th generation console comes with a Kinect motion sensor controller. It has been said that negotiations for the addition of this technology has been finally set out.

In a recent conference call, Masaru Kato, the CFO of Sony stated that PlayStation 4 development has begun despite the fact that the PlayStation 3 has a few years left. With that said, no one at Sony will be talking about the future gaming console for a while.

Regardless, this shows as affirmation that the PS4 is under development. With upcoming releases of competitive consoles, such as the Wii 2 and Xbox, it is rumored that they may be more powerful than the current PlayStation 3. If that is the case, it means that Sony will no longer be selling a dominant console.

With these releases it will put the pressure on Sony to continue to stay competitive by released the PlayStation 4, maybe even ahead of schedule. While the PS3 is a good platform overall, it will no longer be able to compete with next generation consoles.

It looks like EA President Frank Gibeau said during an interview recently that gamers are happy with the PlayStation 3 and doesn’t know what the PlayStation 4 would do to differentiate itself. Gibeau brought up Battlefield 3 as a reason that the PS3 has a lot of life left still.

“It’s hard for me to conceive what you would do on a playstation 4. The displays are already 1080p, you’re already connected to the internet. You could make faster, you could have more polys and could up the graphics a little bit…but at what cost?”

Regardless, this gives us an idea of what Sony thinks of development of the PS4. I understand the philosophy of ‘why fix something if it ain’t broke’ but with all the new technology I can only imagine that integration with the PlayStation 4. The lifespan of gaming consoles is, undoubtedly, longer than previous generations but systems still need to change with consumers and consumer entertainment.

With this recent statement by Gibeau it’ll be interesting to see what Sony decides to do. In order to keep the PlayStation console relevant, it’s essential that Sony continues to bring new generations to the market.

As we expected, we knew there would be more Gran Turismo 6 release date rumours. We waited forever for Gran Turismo 5 since the Sony PS3 first came on the scene, but Polyphony Digital had been working around the clock to get GT5 on the market by November 2010. Can we expect the same when the Playstation 4 comes out? Will Gran Turismo 6 take four years to be released after the PS4 comes to market?

Gran Turismo 5 seemed to be faced with a constant issue prior to its release. People thought it would be more suited for the PS4 and the developer said on a number of occasions that Gran Turismo 5 was a game better suited for the next-generation of the Playstation console. The reason behind this was the fact that the game has so much depth and quality that the PS3 could struggle to do the game justice.

With over 200 new cars in Gran Turismo 5 what will the developer do to top that? Evidentely, so much detail went into each car that it seems that the limit of the PS3 had been reached with the development of GT5. If that is the case then Gran Turismo 6 will surely be something special.

Now that Gran Turismo 5 has been released for the PS3 imagine what the level of detail will be on the Playstation 4. After all, Polyphony Digital pulled off PS4 level detail on a PS3 game.

I think we can all remember what it was like when the first Sony Playstation hit the streets. Just because we had one we thought we were badasses. But we have lived thru a couple ‘upgrades’ to the Playstation with the release of the PS2 and PS3. Now, we are all waiting with anticipation for the Sony Playstation 4.

In the mid 90′s Sony released the first generation Playstation. Sony thought that that platform would last for several years…and for the most part it did. I still see those little grey boxes floating around on eBay, Amazon, and in the local pawn shops. However, in 2000 Sony decided it was time to release the PS2 and then six years later they released the PS3. So if you think about it, it’s about time Sony releases the next generation platform. If you continue with the pattern of releasing a new console every 5-6 years that means the Playstation 4 is due in 2012 or 2013.

So what will be cool about the PS4? Well, without a doubt there will be integrated motion and dual shock gaming controllers. Maybe even 3D graphics. Man, that’d be sweet! Aside from all that fluff, though, I would expect to see improved graphics that take gaming to a new level. Combine that with the other stuff Sony is sure to be cooking up, we will have ourselves one hell of an experience…one that will hopefully challenge our abilities as gamers.

If you remember 2006, the Playstation 3 was sold out in every store. I vividly remember when people were getting on the waiting list, finally got their console, and then turned around and sold it for three to four times what they bought it for. I am positive that the PS4 will be the same. I highly suggest that, if you can, get on the list to pre order the PS4!

You and I both know that the game developers are already working on game creation. I imagine we’ll see new versions of the same games as well as all together new Sony Playstation 4 games. Regardless, they should be top notch and nothing to let us down!

It will be an interesting release to say the least. There are rumors floating around about the new design that the Playstation 4 will have. No official design has been released but thousands of gamers have already submitted their designs. It would be pretty sweet to be the gamer whose design Sony used for the new PS4. We all know that Sony will release multiple designs after the initial release. So if you like the black, I’m sure you’ll get it. For the white console lovers, I’m thinking you might have to wait awhile. But who knows…

Another speculation is the way games are delivered. Will they be on the same disc format or, instead, a USB or online download? Seeing as the PS2 and PS3 are, for the most part, backwards compatible, the Playstation 4 is sure to be as well. If that is truly the case then I’m betting on a disc type delivery with the ability to use USB or download games. Getting rid of discs for the PS4 is a smart move in my opinion. I always hate having to clean the discs because my grimy fingerprints are all over them.

So let’s get the conversation going! Move on over to the forum and start discussing, speculating, and create some rumors!
