Sony’s silence on how its new console would finally look like paved the way for game enthusiasts and design experts to make their own rendition of the PlayStation 4 design. But before the public got to know what is now considered the final layout, some independent designs have took the internet by storm. It may be brought by the very unique, futuristic, and attractive look for these initial design suggestions.
The first and probably the most popular concept roaming around the internet is the slick glass design with a futuristic disc loader unit on the side. The glass panel serves as the PlayStation’s touch pad or screen where every details, settings, and controls are located and may be performed. This version will essentially translate to a full-touch control panel. Certainly, it can be considered as one of the best designs conceived for the PlayStation 4, but, further assessment on its features and practicality raised several concerns and doubts on its acceptability and usefulness.
Among the numerous concerns with the above PlayStation 4 design is the glass panel itself. Most experts view that a glass panel menu is no longer necessary and would just rarely be used. This is aside from the common problems encountered when the glass panel eventually gets damaged, the entire unit would render useless.
The next popularized PlayStation 4 design can be said to be rather bizarre and might be literally termed as “out of this world”. Since this layout suggestion presents a console that is seemingly like an alien-spaceship. It has a circular design featuring a red neon line on top, crossing the console’s radius. The controller is also designed to be unique wherein, it resembles a boomerang or an arched half-circle. In case Sony has considered this option, it can be considered as deviation from the PlayStation design tradition.
Finally, the final PlayStation 4 design that is said to be rolling on the production line is the one designed by Joseph Dumary. It comes in two versions, the standing or the vertical type and another which can lay flat of top of a table. Certain features have still preserved the traditional PlayStation look, but the certain ergonomic improvements can greatly capture attention. It is said that this new design is made out of 60 % recycled materials, is eco-friendly, and energy saving. According to its proponents, this new design is much lighter and is capable of a 0-watt power consumption during standby. It has also been designed to be compatible with the popular Sony S1 and Sony S2 tablets.
